In a recent interview with Dr. Vikram Huded, Interventional Neurologist and Stroke specialist, here is what our doctors suggests regarding Brain Stroke Problem: Brain Stroke is sudden brain damage due to Disturbance in blood supply to the brain. Causes of Brain Stroke:
There are two types of strokes:
a. Ischemic stroke – where there is block in a vessel which supplies the brain. (70-80% of strokes are ischemic).
b. Hemorrhagic stroke (Brain hemorrhage) – bleeding in the brain due to rupture of blood vessel in the brain.
How soon a patient can expect to recover after a Brain Stroke?
As per the doctor, recovery depends on the extent of damage in the brain. If it is TIA they can recover in few minutes time. Majority of cases improve in Few weeks time. If they reach the hospital within 4.5 hours and they receive 'CLOT BLUSTER DRUG' then the chance of recovery will be faster.
Is there a risk of another stroke once already affected?
Definitely, Stroke can recur if not evaluated and treated early. If there are any blocks then they can be treated by Stenting (which is nonsurgical) or by Surgery.
What are the treatment options for a Brain stroke?
Ischemic stroke: If they reach the hospital in 4.5 hours time, we can CLOT BUSTER drug. If some cases we can also do temporary endovascular bypass (stent retreivers) and remove the clot.
What are the do?s and don?ts after a Brain stroke?
DO's – recognize the symptom of stroke. Rush to nearest stroke center.
DON'Ts – don't give any medication, don't waste time, Don't give water
